I have heard of a mid 70's MF 20 Industrial Turf (gas) tractor that may be for sale at a good price one hundred miles away. Apparently it runs good, has nearly new tires all around, but is a bit rough looking from being stored outside. I've heard that these are geared higher than the normal 135's. Is the higher gearing just the "road" gears? Could this tractor be used with a tiller and blades for landscape work? What is the going price for something like this?

I have a 1973 MF20 gas. I look at it as a "toter" tractor. I think it's geared to high for agriculture beyond the mowing or light work with the landscaping rake type of work. Mine has a MF32 front end loader with the front mounted pump. This makes it indispensable but I have a TO35 and MF165 for agricultural chores.

I have never been real satisfied with the Perkins 3 cylinder gas engine. There is NO comparison between it and my TO35's Continental 4 cylinder. However, I understand it can be converted to a diesel for not much more than a rebuild would cost.

I was looking for a 135 when I found my 20, probably 10 years ago. I paid $4500 which was less than the local market for 135's without a front end loader. The dealer had a MF40 gas without a rear PTO for the same price.

The turf tractors do have a some what higher differenttial gear ratio than the regular tractors do.They are faster in all the gears in the transmission than the regular tractors are.

How big of a job (time and $$$) would it be to convert the turf differential to standard gear ratios?

I have the predecessor(I think) of this tractor, a MF2135 Turf. It is a GREAT tractor.....reliable and good running. My MF40 also is super!
