i have a MF 204 Industrial tractor with the shuttle type transmission. put in in what ever gear you wanna work in push pedal to go forwards and other to go backwards. it got where it wouldnt go any direction you can look in where you put the oil acts like it wants to kick in but it wont it just kinda barely jerks but wont move either direction. i had a guy work on it he put a new pump in it and had torque converter re-did guy said it wasnt nothoing wrong with the converter that re-did it. 600 dollars later here we still sit same place guy that did the work just scratched his head and said i dont know?

i was wondering if there is a screen or filter that could be stopped up some where? besides the screen one in the bottom of the transmission? any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Did it ever move after the torque converter was rebuilt? They have an engine stall speed Sprague clutch in the torque converter if it was put in backwards the tractor will not move. Sticking regulator valves can cause them not to move. There are some steeling rings on the input shafts that if they are broke it won't move. The shift linkage that goes into the transmission will bind up sometimes and cause them not to move. Clutch disc in the clutch packs worn out will cause them not to move. It is rare that both forward and reverse clutch packs both go at the same time though. There are probably some other things I cannot think of right now that could cause it. If I can answer any more questions on that transmission Email me

Donald this may seem like a silly question. Did your guy top up the reservoir for the transmission? Fill plug is down by the accelerator/shift pedal? Also linkages for the shifter are prone to going out of adjustment (try placing your foot under the pedal and lift up). Also I have had trouble when one of the shift sticks was not all the way in gear you could try all 4 positions. Do you have 3point or PTO? Filter should be on left side directly in front of the trans. There are also some pressure checks you can do. IT has a manual that covers these procedures in good detail.

Donald...Best I know the 204 is one of the Workbulls. Do your 3point hydraulics work when the machine is put into gear?(pressing down on one side of pedal) If your 3point works and your pto turns your problem may be a broken shear coupling. You probably rolled the tractor around so the brakes are not seized? I do not have a step by step diagnosis for troubleshooting the trans. Someone else may. Manual says to use Type A transmission fluid. There is a proper MF spec to replace it. I used DextronIII. The IT book covers the MF35,F40,MH50,MF50 and the MF202/204 tractors..
