I HAVE RECENTLY AQUIRED AN INDUSTRIAL 202 BUT AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING PARTS OR EVEN INFORMATION ON THE FRONT END LOADER PARTS TO THIS. ALSO DOES THE 202 HAVE A SEPERATE TRACTOR DESIGNATION FROM THE LOADER, ALL THE PARTS THAT I AM FINDING ARE FOR TO35 ETC.

Hi David - I have a TO35 and the 202. They are for all real considerations the same tractor. With the exception of wheels, hydraulics for the power steering, maybe the hood, they are the same tractor base. I hope this helps you in your search for parts. I understand that some 202 workbulls came with PTO and some didn't. Mine did not have the PTO pump (could have been stripped out), but thet have the massive hydraulic pump in front of the engine. The dash are slightly different. Engine and transmissions are identical. Hope this helps.

When you replaced the cylinders and you turned the steering all the way one way or the other did the pump sound differently as compared to when the cylinders were leaking. I disconnected return side of each cylinder(depending on which way the wheels are turned) to check for blowby from piston head seal. I was wondering if the cylinder could be cut on the non rod end and repair the piston packing and then reweld. Cylinders are $200 each. I'am in western Pa also.My 202 has a loader and backhoe and I added a 3 pt. Kind of a do all machine.

It has been a lot of years, at least 15 since I replaced the cylinders, I can't recall if I could hear any difference when I put on the new cylinders. The first thing that I did was to replace the pump, I found a new one from a MF 50 in a surplus catalog, they only wanted $60 for the pump and reservoir (over $600 at the dealer), 1 snap ring and 2 hose adaptors later and I had a new pump on the tractor. But it did not fix the problem. I had purchased the 202 from a Case dealer and was back there looking for a second tractor, I mentioned to the salesman that all that was wrong with the 202 was the leaking power steering cylinders (I did not know that a piston was blown. From behind my back the parts guy said to me "does it look like this?". He was holding one of 2 cylinders that he had in stock in has hand (he did not say why a Case dealer had parts for a 25+ year old M F tractor). He sold the 2 of them to me for what he had paid ($93 each) years before (it took some time for him to find what he had paid). My old ones were crimped on the end. I had thought about trying to adapt some other kind of small surplus cylinder before I found the ones that I have. My tractor came with a 3 point hitch, I added an aftermarket quick detach front loader and I adapted a Ditch Witch back hoe to it. I used to remove them to use the 3 point but finally found another used tractor to do all of the 3 point hitch work.

I checked the serial number on my 1960 MF Workbull 202, it is 305157, yours was built only 86 units before mine, I would think that it would be a 1959 or 1960. Mine was used by a local natural gas company here in Western Pennsylvania to clear gas line rights of way until the mid 1980's when it was traded in and I purchased it from the dealer. It has been a real "WORKBULL" as it's name implies!

I don't think there is any difference, I looked in my old parts book and they show decals that say Massey Ferguson 202 and Workbull 202. My serial number plate is marked MF 202. The only place that it says Workbull is on the decals on the hood, it may have been a marketing thing. There was also a 203 (gas hydostatic) a 204 (diesel stick shift) and a 205 (diesel hydrostatic)

Well I got my 202 running yesterday and it runs
great.I worked it for about 4 hrs and never had
any problems. The poer steering cylinder on the right side does leak a little but no more than
I will be using it I should not have any problems.
I ordered a steering wheel last week for it and
can't wait for it to come in. The original one
that is on it kept falling apart yesterday.

thanks for the info on my 202 and I will keep
in touch.

Mike

Wow there are other Workbull tractors out there. I have a 1960 MF Workbull 202 and I think the serial number is very close to yours, I will check. My power steering did not work much at all and the cylinders were leaking, it turned out that the piston was blown in one of the power steering cylinders which are not rebuildable (only the seals are replacable). When I replaced the cylinders it worked like new. Because the 2 cylinders are in parallel if one is leaking through you can not build any pressure on the other. When the hoses to the power steering cylinders have blown on mine I have used 1/4 brake line to replace them, I just put a loop in them to allow for axle movement.

The major components of the steering are the pump the valve and the cylinders. The pump should put out about 900 to 1100 psi and feed the steering valve located in the steering column. This valve is a spool style which moves up and down when you turn left and right thus aligning the pressure port to either cylinder line while the opposite end of the valve spool the other side of the cylinders. The actual steering wheel/shaft moves about 1/4 inch vertically by the ball rack action in the steering box. Often the top seal will leak and fluid will will come out of the top of the column. I would suggest jacking up the front end and manually move the wheels back and forth to see if you have the full range. If it moves easy you probably don't have fluid in the cylinders. Fill the reservoir on the starter side of the engine by taking the bolt out of the top of the tank and removing the lid. Replace lid and bolt and run tractor and steer left and right lock to lock. It should feel like the hydraulic cylinders are starting to move the tires before the mechanical linkage is felt in the steering. Email me for additional suggestions. Also check out this site for power steering posts since many people seem to have the same problem. It took me a while to get mine fixed. It works great when its right.

I HERE THE POWER STEERING ON THESE TRACTORS WORKS
DIFFERENTLY THAN AUTOMOBILE POWER STEERING. I HAVE
DRIVEN IT ONLY ONCE BUT SITTING STILL IT HAS NOTHING. COULD YOU TELL ME HOW THIS SYSTEM OPERATES WHEN WORKING PROPERLY.

THANKS, MIKE

Look for Big Dean on other posts and click on his link, you can find out what year your tractor is. This is the cheapest place to buy a steering wheel Link I have a 202 and have repaired my power steering. What would you like to know?
