If a Row Crop(38" rear cast center wheels), this is one of the Best red tractors ever built. The
HD260 engine was one of the best 'full' Diesels,
from the 50's. Numbers to Check: all "D" Specials had S/N's beginning like 44D1RF 50001 & up. This
would be the first diesel row crop. S/N 55113& up
have the updated heavier pinion bearings. #56601&
up give you hydraulic updates, to easily adapt "Hitch-All". This 49 year old tractor may be in any condition: beaten, parked rust, or running
strong. The'Standard' version(30" whls), were a waste of good Special components, better donated
to rebulding a Row Crop, the MH 'King'. Worth
checking over, the REAL thing. Good luck.

You have the first year production on the 44 specail. the 54 44 specail in a RC came with the perfected hitch all. works the same as a three point. also the rear end is greater than that of a regural 44. from what off the land says the diesels put to much stress on the rear ends, but i have not run one so cant conferm this.
