I need to purchase a modern tractor. I have 33 acres that I just moved to and starting next year will have a few head of cattle. I currently have a Oliver 77 diesel. I will keep this tractor but I need a tractor with a 3-point hitch, wide front, and a little more power. I'm thinking about a 3020 or 4020. I have always wanted a 3020 or 4020 since I was a little kid. I'm leaning toward a 3020 diesel. The main reason is they seem to be a couple thousand $$ cheaper than a 4020, and I don't think I really need a 90 hp tractor. This tractor will be used to blade snow and the drive way, cutting hay, some light disking, shredder, bailing hay, front end loader, ect.

Do you guys think I'm on the right track with a 3020? Also what is a fair price for a 3020 diesel, wide front, in good condition. Either with a rebuilt motor or low hours...5000 or less. I'm located in central Nebraska so there are a few around for sale.

Thanks

No doubt about it, a 3020 would make a dandy tractor for your 33 acre farm! On the other hand, Rob, I wouldn't necessarily turn down a great deal if you should find one on a 4020 or other larger tractor, just cuz it may be a bit "more tractor than you need." We bought a 105 h.p. tractor (sorry, it's not JD) a few years ago because we got such a good deal on it ... $3,000 below average market value (got it from the local college's ag department.) Sure, it's more tractor than we need for our 74 acre farm, but ya know, I've never felt it had TOO MUCH power ... especially when doing things like plowing alfalfa, subsoiling, ditching, etc. My 2 pennies worth... Cim.

I think the 3020 would be a wise choice. I would get one with the hydraulic controls on a console to the right of the seat. Lot easier to handle.

Yeah a 3020 will do a good job around 33 acres, for most light work. disesl will do better if you using it most time other than gas cost you more money than have disesl, I got a 4000 like 4020 it has loader, we used it around our farm, most do planting and feild work, it's a great tractor I would't sell it! you could see picture on tractor photo for jd 4000 and hey I am in central Nebraska too not far from Grand Island. I have JD A 44 to repair.
