As a real novice with JDs, I need a little guidance with respect to timing a '37 B with a Wico Type X mag. My I&T manual, section 162, states in part, "Turn the magneto shaft to the position where it is firing the front (one nearest the cylinder block) terminal." I'm not sure what this means. When the flywheel is in the LH Impulse position, the mag. distributor rotor contacts are at the 3 o'clock and 6:30 o'clock positions. The cap terminals are at the 2:00 and 5:00 o'clock positions which means that when the mag impulse trips the rotor terminal that is in the 3 o'clock position will jump past the bottom cap terminal. Is this correct? I assume that the bottom cap terminal should be on the No. 1 (left) cylinder. Also correct??? Thanks, John

Technically it will run either way. Correct installation is top wire left cyl. Why? Because XH fires on comp and exhaust.I hope I haven't confused you more. If it is firing #1 on btm wire take mag off turn drive 180 it will fire # 1 on top wire. Earl
