Rob, I thought the only A's with those extra wide rear axles were the AW's which came from the factory as wide front and wider rear axles. (Buddy Paul had one) They are true AW's and not just an A with a later added wide front in that they had those longer rear axles also. I also thought the AN's with the single front wheel just came with the standard length rear axles, so you may have a rare piece OR just one that has had its front pedestal changed. I, like you therefore, hope someone smarter than me answers this. Sorry Ol John T

The early styled 1939-1947 the regular AN/AW had the regular row crop axle housings and same axle length. The ANH/AWH 1939-1947 had the different axle housing (A1961R) and sat on 40" round spoke rears. The late styled 1947 on JD dropped the H in the ANH/AWH to reduce models. So the late AN/AW have the A3271R housing. Round type. And was available on 38" or 42" rears. The parts book shows that a special 96" tread was available serial number 488000 - 583999 on the A/AN/AW, Housing A1961R. But I have yet to see one.

Nate, 47 AW's, 51 AN,AW, 52 AN
