I just purchased a 1930 JD D. My fuel tank turned out to be bad (rusted out). A local radiator shop said they would fill the holes with brass? Good idea? Bad Idea? Does anyone make a reproduction model? A local sheet metal shop said they may be able to fabricate one for me.
Or does anyone have a good used tank? Any info would be appreciated? Thanks

Scooter

If you don't want to do the work yourself there is a place in New Castle, PA that expoxy coats the inside and outside. The final product carries a lifetime guarantee. I had our B tank redone and it looks great. Before I realized the damage, I had make the bottom of the tank into a piece of swiss cheese with our power washer. It must of been bad because I was using the softest setting it has.

Scott,
I looked today, and I have one tank like your tractor needs, but it probably is worse than your is. I appreciate you contacting me and I hope you can find a tank somewhere. I'm pretty sure there was someone at the Expo in July that was makong tanks and they looked pretty good. Good luck. Let me know if you need any more parts for your D. I'll try to help you.

Scooter, unfortunately the fuel tank on a D shows at the rear & bottom so any repairs done to the tank will have to be done with quality. The brass will work but unless done very carefully will probably look bad. There are epoxy products that you can buy that coat the inside of the tank but unless done exactly right & dried out inside correctly they are prone to comming loose & plugging your filter & carb. You might try to buy another tank before you look at having yours repaired. Try "Shorty Dear" usedears@arn.net
