Probably a dumb question. Trying to put a Pertronix ignition on the G. No matter what direction you turn the distributor the unit fires around 90 degrees off of where it should in relation to the contact points. Do you have to take the governor apart to time it ? Probably something stupid I am doing.

I tried putting a 1121 pertronix on my "G" last fall. I could not make it work, and sent it back for a replacement. A letter came with the replacement saying there was nothing wrong with the original unit. The weather turned cold, and I haven't tried the replacement yet, but it is a Delco model 1111558 distributor. We need to figure this problem out so we can get our tractors running right.

Don"t forget the G spins the distributer shaft at crankshaft speed, not camshaft speed.

I am just curious, but what distributor do you have? If you have an 1111558 distributor you have the right unit. If it is another distributor (such as a right angle LP distributor) you do not. And it is possible another unit got put in the wrong box. Mike

Yep,firing between towers. Unless I'm missing something foolish, with the flywheel at "impulse" and #1 is at TDC, no matter where I rotate the distributor it won't fire at the towers. Taking the governor loose and rotating it will never change the timing in relation to the towers. Geez,I never had this problem with the red or orange tractors I have.

You MAY have the wrong Pertronix.

I had the same thing happen with a kit that a customer bought for a 3020.

I have a distibutor machine, and keep an assortment of old caps around, that are "cutaway" allowing me to see where the spark occurs in reation to the high-tension posts.

I remounted the module in that 3020's distributor, making spark occur at the correct places.

It's an 1121. Actually it's the second one. I got another one thinking the first was bad. I'm wondering if it's the right distributor. I bought this tractor in a pile of parts already disassembled. I can't read the whole number but the first four numbers are 1111.

Turning the distributor should correct ANY timing errors, since it can be turned 360º.

Did it come with the correct magnetic trigger "rotor"?

Or, do you men the module is firing when the rotor is BETWEEN the high tension "towers"?
