My neighbor has retired from farming and asked me to help him sell his 420 JD in a couple of weeks. Here is what I know about it; 420 JD, tri-cycle, runs good, barn kept since they bought it new, tires are about 50%, original paint. Can you guys give me a ballpark figure on it"s value. I will probably be listing it here or on Ebay in a few weeks. Thanks.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. I know I have bought tractors selling for $1000 to $1500 more than a lot of other people would pay for it but I happened to have the money at the time and wanted the tractor.

Stick $3500 on it and if it doesn't sell put "Best Offer Considered" on it. If that doesn't do it start dropping the price till it sells. Course all that takes time and being in the right season surely helps, like right now!

I wouldn't advertise the fact that you will "haggle" right off. Some people pay the sticker price and some haggle. If I am looking to buy something I really don't need the right price will sometimes change my mind so I may stop by and start kicking the tires and start haggling (while I'm a thinking about just how bad do I need/want this thing). Course some sellers are "firm, fixed, price" and that chaps me when I want to haggle. Grin

Late or early, 4 spd, or 5, 5 spd with live pto, good 3 point with orig. top link, front weights, overall condition of tractor, could bring $1000. or could bring $3500.
