Not to long ago I heard that someone overhauling a power steering unit on a 520 had drilled out the oil ports inside the pedestal where it flows into the cylinder to increase the strength. Since I've got the pedestal apart now I was thinking about the same thing. The port holes are smaller than the inlet and outlet holes at the hose. Anybody else done this before. Your opinion please.

Those orifices dampen the pulsing that a direct feed from the pump would deliver. Drilling them out might increase the total flow, but it won't make the steering any "stronger". Increase the flow to the system using the flow control valve that you have, backing it off if any "flutter" occurs. I've never seen a stock setup that did not have enough power to move the front end sideways if you turned it when parked against a firm piece of building foundation. I'd think that tha tis all you'd want. I like to set them a little light because I like the firmer fell, and not just all assist. Just my humble opinion.
