I have trouble with my 1010 clutch disengaging the transmission when Im driving. When I push the clutch in it does not always disengage immediately. It somestimes takes a few seconds to respond. Also, once the engine is started I sometimes have trouble shifting the transmission into gear. I can bypass this by staring enging with tractor already in gear and clutch depressed. I can use the tractor but it would be much more fun without this problem. I want to try to adjust the clutch first but Im not sure how to yet. Any ideas?

The directions below are correct, but you might need a few more details.

The manual says to lube the clutch throwout bearing every 100 hours. There is a pop-off cap below the clutch pedal. Pull it out and you should be able to see the grease fitting inside.

The adjustment is to be checked every 200 hours. Look below where the cluth enters the housing for a bolt with a jam nut on it. That is the adjusting stud. Losen teh jam nut. Turn the stud counter-clockwise to increase free travel and clockwise to decrease free travel of the pedal. It should have 3/4 inch free travel.

The clutch free-travel is adjusted by loosening the locknut Key #12, and rotating eccentric bolt "cam", Key #9 in the drawing.

If the free-travel is now within reason, it's possible you have a oily, gummy, or disintregrating clutch disc, or rusty or worn splines that cause the plate to "hang up" for a bit, before slipping back a little, out of contact with the flywheel, when the clutch is release by depressing the pedal.
