I see 3 problems,

Really shiny 73 year old paint
23 degree tires
Painted Axles

I don't believe that story for 1 second

Any other things that don't match up?

For all of those who just don't understand why this tractor has only 20 hours of use on it..... WELL IT JUST HAPPENS SOMETIMES!!!!! !!! I have a 1990 John Deere 4055 that I purchased 2 years ago with only 700 hours of use, when I bought it. So being that it was a 15 year old tractor with only 700 hours of use, you can see that there are some low hour tractors still out there. Many 15 year old tractors can have up to 10000 hours or more!!! It's not impossible that the story behind the A with 20 hours is true. Heres another hint to all those who just don't understand the story behind the A with 20 hours, like the story in ad, it says that the government payed the indians not to farm, ... well the same thing happened to the previous owner of my 4055 tractor!!!! Our U.S. government payed the previous owner not to farm, so the tractor just stood in the barn and did nothing. I am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or be a wise guy but I am trying to explain other's as to why this might happen and that the John Deere A with 20 hours is not the only tractor out there with 20 hours. I believe the story because like I said before, IT JUST HAPPENS SOMETIMES!! I hope my explaination can help others who may be leary againt the ad on ebay.
Thanks
John Deere Jeff

Here's a picture of the Helms Sale bill. The tractor is listed 7th down from the top in the first column.

The serial # he gave makes it a 1935 model.

Yeah Sarah, that's right. I don't see anything else wrong with the listing or the tractor. On the day it was listed I emailed him and told him very nicely that it was a 1935. He's never corrected his listing. Are you saying that if it was your tractor you would not have corrected your listing?

You can read the description and take what you want from it. At 20 bids and over $5000 somebody knows something about it. And like P. Browning said, it is a nice tractor. So if you want a nice '34 A, scratch the 20 hr. story and all the rest, it's still a nice early A. I think people are getting a little paranoid, there still are some honest people selling on e-bay.

And by the way - if you have $13,500 to spend on a tractor, how can it be expensive to keep? Sorry I just had to say that.

Yah...because so many tractor stories have Indians in them - nothing against our Native American friends - but this story sounds bunk!
Nothing ads up - and what is the point of the reservation story and last time I checked there isn't a Hobb's hour meter available on a '34 A - funny how he know there is only 20 hours on it. Huh? Big deal...new tires, and possibly a decent repaint - but again who trusts the person taking the picture!

1 Dollar -- I don't understand your indignation! For one thing, painted axles will clean up very easily, and secondly -- tires are not a big deal in restoration of a tractor.

I think the tractor looked pretty nice. Besides, the browsing buyer has a choice -- click his mouse or just move on! Be cool!

No doubt that tractor looks good and like something that I could be proud of. But, I just didn't think that the story was true and in my opinion an "essentially new 1934 tractor" would be 100% correct. I didn't think that the axles were painted from the factory. That was my little thing.

The tractor was purchased at the action for $13500. Mr. Helms did repaint the tractor, and the history behind the tractor fits the auction bill.
