I am not a correct policeman, so I got my new 420 tach at Mother Deere. Works good, looks good, and suits me.

riggsjr,

Put a "wanted" ad in the YT Classifieds. A "working" used one will probably set you back $200.00 or more.

The tachometer was an option on the Model 420.

Here is a photo of an "original" tachometer for a Model 420 with the 5-speed transmission (a 4-speed Model 420 would use a 4-speed tach). Notice the number on the face (under the John Deere) is similar to the AT 1776 T number you referred to earlier, but appears to have an additional numeral.

I am looking for a 5 speed tach, but an original. I think the part # AT17443 is for an OEM.Do you know what the corrct part # would be for a 1958 420W or where I can get one?

There's usually one on ebay.A couple years ago i put an add on this site for a used one.A guy in canada sold me 5 working originals for 90 bucks.
I used the last one a couple months ago.

riggsjr,

AT1776T does not show up as a valid part on JDPARTS. Are you sure you did not leave out a numeral in that number? AT17443 shows up as a tachometer for the JD 1010 (it subs for AT13366). The Model 420 parts book does not show any of these numbers, but it is possible the AT17443 tachometer is a replacement part for the 420. Next question, are you looking for a tach for a 4-speed or 5-speed?

The tach for a 420-W ...5 Speed:
Miles per hour...#AM3492T
Kilometers per hour ... # AM3716T
These are the original part numbers, but I think if you get the tach from Deere, they will sub these numbers and the tach you will get will have colors in the face instead of black and white.
