On my new (to me) 318 whenever you run the lights for more that 10-15 minutes it blows the fuse for the safety switches and the PTO etc. all turn off as well as the engine. The lights stay on and I am able to drive back to the garage by holding the switch on the hydro lever while I drive. What is the correct amperage for that little fuse ( 1/2" ) and what would cause it to blow?

Thanks

It always helps to post the serial number!

JDPARTS shows THREE serial number breaks for the wiring on a 318.

If you are trying to say you have a GLASS fuse, it must be one of the older series.

A 2 Amp AGA fuse is shown for
one location, Key # 21, and a 20 AMP SFE fuse is shown for the other, Key # 20.

This diagram is for serial #'s 222001 to 420905.

If it is a flat plastic "ATO" fuse, and a different serial number, that's another matter.

You can look it up yourself at JDPARTS.

I would first be sure I was using the correct fuses, and inspect the fuseholder for damage that would make a poor contact with the fuse, causing it to overheat and blow.

SN=S-A853862100

Tractor was purchased in May 1985 (according to manual)

It is a little glass fuse with about 1/32 of an inch of viewable glass. Overall lenght is about 1/2".

I'll take a look at JD.
