Is there a way that i can put a regular bock heater on a 61 JD 4010 without having to change much. I have found heaters that go in oil dip stick and warm oil and i have found heaters where you have to tap into water drain plug and crosss in front of engine and go up to the head and place the heater on that line. Is there anyway that i can just adapt fittings out and put a heater only at the original water drain plug or somewhere else in the block. thanks

Changing the drain valve to that adapter and running the hose through the heater to the heat is the Deere standard way of adding the heater. Those are the only available openings into the water jacket that will circulate. There are no freeze plugs in block or head to allow using a heater inside the block.

There may be a plug in the front of the crankcase for an oil heater, there is on the early 4020. That's an alternative.

I know folks on here don't like them as well, but I put a 700 watt heater in the lower radiator hose on my 4010 this fall, it has worked well for us.

The tractor has started in a second or two all winter even down to 5 degrees F.
