My 4020 blew a rear seal last week it is leaking some oil out of the right side. I can take the little plate off and there is oil on the fly-wheel it is splashing it out . I've not had to add any oil so it's not that much.My question is if I continue to use it will it get oil on the clutch and ruin it or do I just need not to use the tractor. I have a appointment next week to get it fixed. thanks for any reply::: Ricky

I certainly can't recommend running it, however, if you need to finish something up, and watch it so it doesn't run low on oil, and it's NOT leaking all that bad, have you tried taking the inspection plate off of the bottom of the clutch housing, letting any buildup of oil out?

If there's no buildup of oil in there, the clutch will probably NOT be affected much (won't get oil on the plates).

WORSE than the rear main seal is when the seal between the tansmission drive shaft and the PTO driveshaft fails, 'cause that oil is thrown right into the clutch. So, are you SURE it's the rear main seal leaking engine oil, or could it be tranny/hydraulic oil leaking forward, and mixing with the clutch material and grease in the clutch housing, then running out, looking like diesel oil?

So long as the clutch is not used really hard,I would probably continue to use the tractor.
