Hi Guys; I'm looking a 50 D and there is water leaking into the oil. Head was ck'd, new gasket. Still leaks...slowly. Run great, starts good. Takes about a week of sitting to see any water. Do the D's have the push rod tubes that rust out, like the A's and B's? Or not!? Thanks for any info. Bob

Glen; Thank you for all the information! I just found out there is a parts tractor that goes with it. 80% rear rubber, (the guy says!) The wife and I are going to ck it out next week. The Ds should be cheaper up here, but there isn't many, if any 100m south of Canada!! I come from western Mn, where the farms are a lot bigger, but there is a LOT of junk out there!! Thank you for the tips on the head gasket, and the block. I have some JDs,here...a 36B,37B,39B,39A,49AR,420U,430C, and a 650 To mow with! Never a D. Got most yrs ago, when prices were a LOT cheaper! Ok,Better quit. Bob

Glenn; Thanks for the reply. I don't know if those things were done or not. The rest of the D looks good, tires are good, etc. The fellow is asking 2000.00. Maybe 1850.00 Can't look at it again till next week. Don't know if the price is fair or not! Thanks a lot for your reply. Bob Mn

Bob, Sometimes I've gotten by just putting another head gasket and sealer on a D that leaked but so much trouble to pull the heavy radiator and if it needs more it sure is good to have the block decks and head surfaced to be sure. Had one could never get to quit leaking and finally overhauled it and had decks surfaced and then no more leaks. Old NOS gaskets can give you problems too so use a good new head gasket and the lead washers under the stud nuts. Would have to be a real nice running D for me to give 2000 but that's just me and can find them cheaper around here. I know the value of Ds where they aren't as common has gone up a lot lately.

No push rod tubes ever on the Ds. Was the head and block surface planed true? Any sealer used on the head gasket?
