This has probably been asked many times before but I can't find an answer to my specific question. Of the 2cyl. poppin' john's, what was the largest model? Presumeably the most HP too...

I can tell ya they used the original "D" model pistons.

The story goes that they had so many Waterloo Boy pistons laying around that the new Deere management said they had to use the inventory in their new design (which was actually the "bathtub" Waterloo Boy ...I can't remember the model number....so the "D" got the same engine bore and stroke.

Non factory...I've seen a two cylider at a tractor pull that has been modified to what is supposedly slightly over 1000 cu in. Can't confirm size, but it could certainly pull down the track. I'm sure it wouldn't last long in the field, though...

The 840I would be the physically largest and heaviest. Most of the mechanicals were shared with the 830, so the horsepower is basically the same.

I AM SORRY BUT THE QUESTION WAS 2 CYL. I AGREE, AFTER I RE-READ WHAT I WROTE. I FELT PRETTY STUPID. 2 CYL. WAS WHAT I WAS AFTER, THAT IS NOT HOW IT CAME OUT.

That's not correct. Deere has built five engines bigger than the 501-cube "D" engine. The 6531 (531-cube) engine first used in the 5010, the 6619 (616-cube), the 6105 (10.5-liter), the 6125 (12.5-liter) and the new 6135 (13.5-liter).

Yep, I forgot all about the 8955 V-8. I've only been around a couple of machines with those engines, so they tend to slip my mind.

Are those only 2 cyld. ? This is a trick question. Largest 2 cylinder bore or weight or HP ??? I think it's all been answered here. The D with largest 2 cyld. bore of 6 3/4" and 840 on largest with weight.

Largest?

840..had to weigh the most all ready for a Hancock scraper

Most Powerful?

820 Black dash, 830, 840 all tie for top honors at 75.6 pulley hp as they had the same engine.

Biggest in terms of displacement? Late "D" at 501 cubes.....biggest knockers IMHO.

830 was the largest farm tractor, but wasn't there a 840 industrial that was two cylinder? Seems I have seen some discussion on this, but I may be all wet.

im not quite sure so somebody may say differently, but: I would say the 830 or 730 deisels would have the most hp because the engines were more advanced as the years went on.
