I know this question will have various answers. I have a 1939 JD H. It was #1010 -- now it's #2305. Reason the number is different is because the first 104 H's were recalled for crankshaft replacement and restamped with a new serial number. This has all been documented with the archives-Deere-etc. It is an expo tractor with fenders and hydraulic. I might consider loaning it to some type of museum. So that is where the question comes in--what would it be worth? I've been told that it is the lowest numbered H in existence--{but that is uncomfirmed}. I'd like to come up with a price for insurance purposes. Right now it is insured for $10,000---is that too much or too little? I've been told around $5000 for a low amount and as HIGH as $25,000??!! Thanks

It's not the lowest serial numbered "H" in existence. It really doesn't matter that your "H" WAS s/n 1010---NOW it's s/n 2305, and that changes the value, no matter how much documentation you have. I'd say you're very safe at $10K.

I'm not going to argue with any of you guys comments. Any and all are excellent. But according to Jack Cherry, the archives in Moline, and comments from other collectors it was and still is #11. It was the 11th one assembled--no arguing that. Thanks for the comments.

third party image

I seen this 39' H at the John Deere Pavilion in Moline, IL. Evidence suggests it's the 14th one built. It doesn't have a tag.

I posted this picture in the past on another board and someone posted the following....

"If my data recollection is on target here -- the H should indeed be S/N 1013, the sole survivor of any with S/N under 1100. It was used by the local Boy Scouts for a long time outfitted with a wide front. Then after some years of dis-use, it came back to Deere and was re-fitted with it orignial front end. Now that baby would be one for your collection!! But the neat part of that one, everyone has visual access to some history."

Won't surprize me a bit to find out someone is whipping out exact repro tags and you can stamp whatever number you want ! I've seen them for Farmalls.

It's worth whatever someone will pay. If you could substantiate it being the lowest serial-number "H" in existence, it might be "worth" more.

To the average guy (like me)I doubt you will get any more for it than any other H model. On any given day mainly at the auction held in IN around Labor Day all kinda crazy people with lots of money come out and bid so any price imaginable could happen. So I guess I'd agree with what you have been told $5-$25,000 anyones guess ?????
