I have 2 JD B's, one is a late model, and the other is a '37 model. Is it possible to swap the rear ends of the 2 tractors? The late model does not have a number but does have a steel tag on it and has a styled cast iron frame.
The early tractor is a '37 unstyled angle iron frame. The bolt hole pattern looks the same and the bolts look the same. I want to put the late model rear end on the early model tractor.

Weight of Engine in reply to yoyo, 08-21-2005 12:25:57
Anybody know the weight of the engine alone from a 330? I'm considering a marine conversion. Thanks! --Rob

yo, The rear axle assembly from your styled cast iron frame tractor will bolt and fit directly on your 1937 tractor transmission case. Axle bull gear outside diameter and teeth count are the same on both tractors. I have done it many times when I build pulling tractors. Both tractors use the same gasket / part number. This is the easy way to do it as shaft swapping does not work without machine work or special bearings because bearings inside and outside race diameters vary between them. Keep your original rear housing assembly as some day you may come across another hub to match you original 10 spleen and in a short afternoon you could have it swapped back. Good Luck, DW

I only have one axle hub and wheel with the early smaller style tractor axle and all the axle hubs and wheels that I have are larger wrong size. I have two complete sets of the late style larger size hubs and wheels and these are a different diameter axles then the diameter of the tractor that I only have one hub and wheel. Is it easier to just change the axles, seems as though it would be easier to just unbolt the rear ends instead of opening up and changing all the axles.

It would be a lot easier to find another wheel to fit your 1937 "B" than to switch rear end housings, even if it's possible. Otherwise, you'll have a hybrid that will greatly reduce the value of your '37.
