what"s the difference in a 4010 and a 4020(besides the years they were made)? IS a 4010 24 volt? My 4010 is blowing smoke that is not dark, what does that mean? Is it the injector? What is the lever next to the draw bar raise lever? I hate to ask this many questions at once. I just bought it and I am really pumped about it.

Thank you guys for the help. I am looking for a manual that will show me maintenance procedures for engine, hyd system, air, fuel, electric, ect. Which manual is the best for the 4010?

If any overhauls were done engine should be up to 4020 specs. 4020 heavier rear and heavier tractor to boot. pto is leftside floor.Hydraulics leftside dash. 24 volt
Hope you do not need any parts! As JD seems to live up to its name JD green.
I know next tractor I am thinking of will check prices on coomon parts before I buy.
JD water pump 300+
JD radiator 600+
24 volt starter 600 +
Filters 100 +
I am glad my other colors do not need parts since I have had them and they get used more.

Ya I'm with bob on this one.
Water pump= complete $232 or you could buy the rebuild parts for under $20
Radiator= Your close, deere gets $737 or you could buy after market for under $400
24 volt starter= $378 or switch your tractor over to 12volt(better) for around $200
Filter?? use bobs prices, except there is no powershift 4010, and the 4010 had a oil bath air filtet, most of the fuel systems have been changed to the glass type and not the old canister style.

Jack,

I don't know what you've been smok'in, but you're a little off on at least a couple of your prices.

Parts to rebuild the water pump (which will repair it 95% of the time), will only cost about $30.00, and perhaps an hour of labor.

The 24 Volt starter, TY6703, is $350.00.

Engine oil filter... $3.40.

Fuel filter, 1- @$9.25 or 2- @7.25.

Hydraulic filter $5.25 (powershifts use 2)

Air filter (for late models only) $27.75

I sure don't see any filter prices that are out of line, here!

Suggest you price some NH parts, for comparison!

I'm guessing yours is a diesel. 4010 diesels had a 380 cubic inch diesel the 4020 had the 404 (even though when overhauled 4010's get the sleeves and pistons so they then go to 404). rear ends are lighter and the axle is a little smaller then the 4020. PTO lever is on the left not the right of the console. Many more little differences. 4010 diesels where 24 volt. Where is it blowing smoke? If its out the exhaust most likely either injection system or possibly head gasket or needing a overhaul. If its coming out the breather tube it would depend on how bad it smokes. On the levers, the one closest to the steering wheel is the 3 point the next one would be a hydraulic outlet and if you have 2 out lets there would be a 3rd shorter one.
