I have been reading a lot on the 6030, and have run accross some of situations where the rear end spider gears have had problems locking up. I talked with a guy who had a 6030 for sale who had this problem as well. Does any one know what this is about and how can this be prevented?
Most importantly did the 5020 have this problem as well?

Thanks for your help...

The rear end problems showed up on 6030's with turned up pumps, huge duals full of ballast and an over sized implement pulled in one of the lowest gears with the engine lugging. The rear ends on red tractors failed sooner under the same conditions however.

Your will have to check the parts book but the 5020 and 6030 trans and finals share some common parts particularly in the latest 5020 revision. The 5020 only had 141 rated HP and the 6030 175HP. Usually 6030's ran 225 to 250 HP by the time some tinkerer got done adjusting the "smoke screw". Alot of difference is final drive stress between the HP levels.

What is more reliable? A stock 5020 or a stock 6030? Pulling the same load? Same HP levels? Usually a newer and lower hour piece of equipment is less deteriated. That would be a 6030 but they are getting old too. You can't compare apples and oranges.

"deteriated"

So if a machine is "real old" like a 5020, but does not have alot of hours on it could it actually be problematic because of it's age? I have found a 5020 with what it looks like only 4500 hours on it, could it have major problems due to the fact that it is 30 years old? I am very new to all this any help would be apprietiated thanks..

It's like anything else mechanical. Age, hours of useage and type of use/abuse. As for the 5020/6030 being weak in the trans/finals, no. Drivetrains were a problem for many Case, IH and CIH tractors.

sorry I can't help, but I have a question for you in reply to rjb, 08-23-2004 19:08:11
Hi RJB,

sorry but I can't help you on this one. But you wrote that you read a lot about 6030's. Can you tell me were you find info about them? Because I can hardly find any. Most of my info comes from this page, or from greenmagazine.

Good luck with your question and I hope that you can help me out...

Greetings Mark
