Why is the 4840 priced so much higher than a good 6030? What Advantages did or does the 4840 hav over the 6030?

Well, other than the Sound-Gard and powershift which have already been mentioned, the 4840 has the 6466 engine, which is a little more reliable and much cheaper to service than the 6531 used in the 6030. The 6531 obviously has more low-end lugging power, but needs it as you can't easily shift down as with the powershift 4840. Different tractors from different eras.

2 things. 1st, Sound guard cab. 2nd, powershift tranny. A good 6030 will outpull a 4840, but the 4840 is lightyears ahead of the 6030 as far as operator comfort. If someone has the need for EITHER of these tractors, it's likely they'll be spending long hours in the drivers seat. Comfort is worth it's wieght in gold.
The 4840 has become a very popular tractor over the years. BIGTIME HORSEPOWER in a modern chassis.Because of the "Farm Crisis" of the 80's, there were not as many 4850-4950-4955-4755's made as the 4840. John

There was a 6030 for sale a while back in Canada with a Sound Gard Body. Obviously somebody had put it on later but it the tractor and everything looked real nice. I was wondering if doing that would increase comfort in a 6030? 6030s are about the cheapest hp money can buy. They sell for less than $10,000 around and most of the time you can get them for the same price as a 4020. I already have a 5010 and 5020. Next tractor is going to be a 6030 to complete the series.

Any big difference in leg room comparing the 5010 to the 5020 series. I bought a property recently with a 5410 included but it does not have enough leg room to operate the brakes comfortably?

Thanks

I'm sure it would help.....some. The 6030 is a noisy machine. More so than the 5020 it was based on. With so much raw power being channeled through the transmission, it gives off a lot of noise. A Sound Gaurd Cab would be a nice addition, but it wouldn't be as quiet as the 4840. I owned a 6030 for about 5 years. Wish I'd kept it. I sold it to make room for a 4955. It's a fine tractor in it's own right, but NOTHING ever looked so good setting in my shed, as that BIG ol' 6030. It was worth having around, just to pull anything out of the mud, should something get stuck. Mine had a factory cab. It was sort of like an amplifier. It was the noisiest tractor I've ever been near. BUT WHAT A BEAST! John

The 4840 has the Sound Gard body and the 8 sp powershift. In my opinion those are the only things a 4840 has over the 6030.
