I am needing to rebuild the diesel motor on my 4020 (1964) with 7400+ hours and never been touched with a wrench. While planting I got some blue smoke and a knocking. Was told it was probably a spun bearing. How difficult is a rebuild and what are the good kits out there? I have minimal experience but can get help.

Did you lose oil pressure prior to the problem? If not, it's not likely to be a spun bearing. A knocking noise coupled with blue smoke could be fuel-related, such as broken nozzle tip or malfuntioning nozzle. I'd pull the nozzles and get them tested before assuming the worst, along with performing a compression test. If it did spin a bearing, the crankshaft will likely need to be removed for polishing or regrinding, which makes an overhaul a lot more work than a simple in-frame sleeve and piston replacement.
