Could someone tell me the procedure for taking off the governor on an unstyled model D and what should I look for when I get it off?

Rob, if just pulling the governor you can pull the hood & fuel tank or just lift the rear of the hood up & unbolt the governor from the crankcase & fan shaft then work it out the back..

~If you want to also remove the fan shaft you will have a harder time & the hood, fuel tank, radiator, possibly front water pipe will all have to come off or apart..

~It’s not difficult to remove but can be time consuming & if you have rusted parts, then removing that radiator & water pipe won’t be easy..

~As far as inspecting the governor?? Look for worn bearings, worn case bore where the R/H bearing rides, worn weight pivots & pivot pins, gears that have worn & sharp teeth, bent or worn main shaft, any excess wear on other parts..

Need to pull the govenor out of my 41 A as well as I believe the bearings on the mainshaft need replaceing? Impossible to time the thing right when the shaft run's off centre and was wondering if there's anything special I'll need to watch for when attempting this stunt? Any advice Clooney?

Rob, yes the governor & ign timing will have to be re-set..

~No big deal on the governor or ignition timing so if you pull it apart we can easily talk you through the re-installation..
