h will not idle we have h j.d have completely dismantled carb but still will not idle with out surging back and forth can remove idle screw way out or in not make difference also seems to pop back threw carb sometimesat full throttle we also checked for tight valves all ok. new plugs and wires. also back fires trew exhaust some times when coming off full throttle thanks in advance rman

rman, those "H" DLTX 26/46 carbs are a little different than the bigger DLTX carbs.
~The first thing I would suspect is a plugged idle transfer passage that you missed in your original cleaning.
~The second thing I would suspect is one of the throttle plate shaft bushings isn't pressed in all the way & allowing air to by-pass the end of the throttle plate.

I own two JD H's and I suspect that you have not really achieved getting the idle passages clean in the carburetor. Have you removed all the brass plugs and made sure all the passages are clear? There are two passages in the throat of the carburetor, one on either side of the closed throttle butterfly that also need to be clean and open. The idle adjusting screw not functioning pretty much indicates you have a plugged idle passage in the carburetor.
