How much would a John Deere guy pay for a 1962 JD 1010 in good condition with low hours? I don't know much about this model. Thanks

I have seen very few positive comments about 1010's posted on this board, but in my opinion, whether one works for you depends on how you plan to use the tractor. I have a 1010 that serves my purposes, those being primarily a hobby tractor to drag a dead tree from time to time, run the rotary mower and maybe grade a driveway. Having said that, I will have to say that there are a couple of things that I wish were different about mine. They have tiny brake discs, considering the size of the tractor, and the discs are pretty much impossible to find except through a dealer. The brake locks are poor at best. My hydraulic system "sinks and pops up" under load and clearly needs some attention, but the dealer says they are so complicated and different than other J-D systems that he refuses to work on mine. As far as price is concerned, I would make one suggestion. Go to the column on the left and click on Tractor Registry. Find the 1010s there and see what they say. Not everybody posts price paid, but several do. I gave $2250 for mine several years ago and am still pleased with what I feel was a good value for my needs.

I’d ask a LOT of questions about this model before giving more than low buck for a 1010. This tractor was far from John Deere’s better efforts. Problems with internal engine, hydraulics, and tranny are common.

Why not see if you can find a nice 1020 or 1520. You might pay more, initially, but chances are you’ll come out far ahead in the long run. Just my tcw.
