I have a model 44 plow that I have been using for the past 10 years or so. Last season it seemed like it pulled at an angle i.e. not straight behind the tractor. I have set it up by the book and tried to get the hitch adjusted to line up the center of draft and the center of the tractor. It does not seem to make a lot of difference. The shares are only a few years old and the heels on the landsides are a little worn.

Any ideas why it pulls crooked ?

Thanks

Greg

Have a 44 14/16 hydraulic lift on rubber & have been using it for decades. I'm not going to say they all did this 'cause I'm sure some did not. Mine however does a nice job of plowing but has always pulled crooked! I have measured, set up per book, lined up with strings, sighted across this & that. I've set the land wheel up on a 7" block as well as the tractor's front & land wheels dropping the polw on a concrete pad. I've pulled it with an A, I've pulled it with a B. New shares, old shares, new land slides, old land slides, it pulls crooked. Never have I found anything bent or out of line. Took it apart & cleaned rust out of the nooks & crannies, between beams & under frogs. It pulls crooked. I've adjusted it's drawbar and all its various parts every which way but upside down. Have tried 'bout everything short of pulling it by chain hooked to the furrow wheel. It pulls crooked. Settings are a LOT different if in sod than if in stubble & the furrow wheel often doesn't roll at all if adjusted per the book. If I adjust it to roll against the furrow wall to help keep it from crabbing it just tries to roll up onto the land & the rear bottom won't dig in. The plow leaves nice square shouldered clean furrow walls with clean furrow bottoms but it pulls crooked. I gave up years ago deciding it really isn't broke so I stopped trying to fix it. Now I let it crab it's way across the field rolling the soil over quite nicely.

Has it been the same tractor and same hitch settings for all 10 years? Also how many acres has it plowed with those shares? You mention the shares are a few years old. Depending on how many acres you have plowed, those shares might be needing a sharpening!
