We are expecting a freeze for the next two nights in mid-north Indiana. It is not unusal to get a frost early May, but to get two nights in a row with freezing tempatures is. The alfalfa is looking great. Looks to be two to three weeks away from first cutting. How much will it effect the yeild and quality if any? Also I seeded alfalfa in standing wheat in the middle of March when we had wet conditions. I looked at the field yesterday and it was about 1/2" to 1" in height. What will it do to it? Thanks.

I agree with Michael, the wheat should protect your alfalfa from pretty heavy frost.

Pretty much the same all across the upper midwest. Nothing is growing. I am ready for 85 degree weather and sunshine.

Hi JD70. its snowing in western Ontario tonight but melting almost right away, truck white with frost this morning. I've been looking at hay and pasture fields real close, clover is starting to come but it will be quite a while before I think about cutting, maybe first week of June so 5 weeks at the least. I don't think the frost will have any affect on your new seeded alfalfa, sounds like its doing fine as you describe it, there will be no affect on your mature alafalfa, grasses seem to be able to take some real cold weather with little affect, other than the slower growth we get when the weather turns cold....Mike in Exeter Ontario
