Stared slow too!Measures the pickup teeth to the rubber flap at 1.5 inches a way thats what it was set at. The h is a good baler andit can work for you. You might want to ask your closet dealer or call the factory for help. The service guys in Pella really know there stuff. Please give a dealer or the factory guys a chance before you trade it might not be much of a problem.

My starting problems

.Too wet (fails 3 turn twist test)
.Too dry (crackling)
.Too big a wind row .Trying to feed too much into pickup before roll starts
. Not being centered on windrow for starting roll
.Old SLICK belts

So, your respondents covered all your possible sins except belts. I tried to correct everything mentioned and still had a problem starting stemmy sudan until I put on new belts with the center 2 being the chevron pattern.

Huh, I can speed into the windrow now and have zero problems unless, (get this) it is too DRY.

Good luck,

Mark

I live in San Marcos Texas & the field is medeo & Gordo bluestem I cut it about knee high some place it was half knee high thats why I put the windrows together still a bit small in places. Tryed baling again Sat morning at 6.45 the hay wrapped around the front pickup flapper roller so too wet. I stoped let the dew dry off & try one more time or trade these 605 H for a new one !! Hope today when the dew drys off better Thanks everyone for the tips!want to be hay baler out

The comment on 3 windrows together may be correct. The older Vermeer balers do not like large windrows.

Wrapping hay round the starting roller happens when the moisture content is too high.

Are the new teeth Vermeer or "will fits"? Vermeer teeth in my experince are stiffer and do a better job of stuffing hay into the chamber.

When I start a bale with my Vermeer I start with a limited amount of hay on one side of the baler and quickly weave to get hay across the entire width of the pickup. Watch the hay. You will see it suddenly suck into the chamber and the bale start to roll. You may have to stop your tractor to see this happen. If you get too much hay in the front of the baler it can not squeeze between the starter roller and the lower drum to get into the chamber and it is time to unplug. Once the core is formed you should be able to go along at a good clip. I bale in 5th or 6th with my 4010.

Good luck

John

I would stop at 18-20' width of hay rolled together. Now that depends on how heavy the hay is, but 3 swaths sounds kinda thick - my 605 F wouldn't care for it.

A bearing lock collar loosened, bearing ate into the shaft on the top drive roller on my 605, so have that at the machine shop since Thursday, they are building me a new roller. Was supposed to bale for a neighbor today, but the shopis so busy, won't get to it until Monday at the earliest.

Had some problems getting the right parts for a wheel rake, was shipping parts back & forth Thursday.

My trusty NH 55 rake had some bearings fall apart in the gearbox, kept getting to be a bigger job as I dug into it, but go it together...

My very favorate tractor for square baling, IHC 300, has been in the shop getting an engine rebuild for several weeks, so am using the same tractor to cut, rake, & bale. I miss the idependent pto, TA, and Fast Hitch on the baler!!!!!

My 1209 moco has a cracked frame, bearing holder for a roller cracked right out of the side, don't have time to pull it all apart so someone can get in to weld & plate it - too busy cutting with the 14-92 sickle mower and fixing the other stuff.

What do the flaps look like on he starter roller. Is the wind guard in the baler. Do you have all the teeth. The Are you weaving to start the bale? The book say the distance between the teeth and the flaps should be 1' to 3' inches. Pull up to the windrow in first gear and go about a 1 foot and stop. Give the baler time to eat. Back off on the hyd. tension. Maybe smaller windrows.

do you have a book on this baler? is gear box in 1000 rpm?. sounds like having to over rev tractor to turn baler, and move tractor.is slip clutch slipping 1500-2000 pressure on hyd. guage? my two Fs and J baler just eat up 4-5 foot wind rows.and sounds like you have plenty of tractor.if near tyler let me know. joe
