Does the 273 have the SuperSweep pickup? Measure the distance between the tines on the pickup- the SuperSweep would be narrower. For the same money and condition, plus the 273 is newer- the SuperSweep picks up thinner hay much better.

You can get manuals for NH balers from any NH dealer or you can call New Holland publications at 800-635-4913.

The 268 would also have only a two-joint pto drive. If the 273 has a three-joint pto drive, it will corner better and offset for a wider tractor. I switched my 268 to a drive from a 269 (only difference between the two) to get the three-joint. NH engineers (?) must have thought tractors were about 40 inches wide back then-(Measure the distance between the windrow pickup and the pto driveline)- When those balers were made, farmers planted corn in wide rows, but it takes a tractor set for 30 inch corn rows to pull that hay baler down a windrow without running over too much hay. Typical case of well-educated, well-paid people without practical experience, making machines for farmers to use. And yet, they made excellent haying equipment in so many other ways.
