I have a 1942 Farmall H and a M-448(front mounted, 4 row) cultivator. I think the H will handle it just fine, just go a little slower. What do you all think? I'm also getting two 46 IH balers, one runs and the other's a parts donor, I'm confident the H will power it, but I was wondering if the H might be a little light and the baler might shake the tractor and me to pieces. Any thoughts?

I think you will find that the H is too light for a 4 row cultivator, if you encounter some hard ground on just one side, it will pull the tractor in that direction, and you won't be able to steer it back unless you lift the cultivator out of the ground. You run the risk of damaging part of your crop.

It is heavier on the front than the B JD and no problem with 4 rows on the B, that is why we used the 46 baler back of the AR as the B had the cultivator on most of the time

Speed for cultivating would not be any slower than larger tractor, control is what sets speed, and will handle baler just fine, never put baler behind our H as it was on 9' haybine, used baler behind J D B, same HP and pulled with thrower as easy as the J D AR. IHC H 27 HP, J D B 28 HP, J D AR 38 HP

Dad ran that cultivator on an IHC 300 for years. A souped up H is what the 300 is. Should work for you.

An H will run the baler too - problem is no live pto, so you will need to learn to make very even windrows, and probably keep them light. Again we've baled several 100,000 bales with a NH 270 hooked up to the 300 (with live pto & the TA 8-speed tranny) and works well.

I have never, and would never want to, bale in 3rd gear. I'm the guy back on the hayrack trying to stack the bales, and I hate 2nd gear even - way too fast & bumpy, we rake the windrows to work in 1st gear, have the option to drop to 1st low if we got too optimistic & can bump up to 2nd in light spots. I can't imaging planning to bale in 3rd....

I have baled over 100,000 bales with a H and number 46 baler. It will pull it in 3rd gear all day long.

I ran a new holland 67 with my H. The only problem was the ground speed was too fast.
