I have a VanBrunt FB 13X7 grain drill that I am going to use for seeding hay. I need the settings for the grass box at 20lbs/acre (mixed orchard, timothy, brome), the grain box (oats) at 2bu/acre and the fertilizer box at 200#/acre (10-10-10). Any help would be appreciated.

Two bushel per acre may arguably be on the heavy side for a cover crop. Seed company tells me one bushel, the amish always told be 1.5 bushels. I would run my drill on the lean side of 2.

DO NOT put brome seed in that grass box! It will plug the thing up. Been there, done that. You may be better off dropping timothy and orchardgrass with the grass box and broadcasting the brome by itself. Some people have mixed brome seed with the oats and run it through the grain box, but I've never done it that way so I don't know how it works. What casting number is on the fertilizer propellers in the drill? Makes a difference on the setting.

Tim,
The seed I am using is a grass seed mixture with about 30% Brome so it sound like I will have to mix with the oats. The fertilizer castings are stamped T107 I believe. I think these are the standard castings. Thanks for the information.

We always mixed brome in a washtub by hand with the oats and didn't set it real deep on sandy soil. Had good results, but later gave up on brome in shorter rotations.
