Recently picked up a good running Farmall A..From what we can tell from the Serial# it is 1947 Louisville production..This tractor has a dual pto setup with one shaft in the normal fore and aft direction and an additional 90 degree gearbox located just above the std pto for another pto option. Any ideas of what this extra pto was used for..?? I think it was for driving some of the old stationary type equipment..like maybe a buzz saw or pumps..

The tractor runs fine and we want to put it into service plowing and tilling the garden so we need a plow..Does anyone have any ideas on the plows used on these tractors and where one may be located..I would prefer to use implements that were originally sized and made for this machine..

Thanks

The pto with the 90 degree gear box normally had a pulley mounted on it and was used as you thought. Best bet for plow would probably be any salvage yards in your area. www.jptractorsalvage.com may have one if you call or email them. They are in southern Mo., and depending on where you live shipping may be more than you want to pay. If you are in the northern part of the country, you might email Parts man at parts_27@hotmail.com. Note, the plow for the A and the Super a are not the same.

Thanks for the quick reply..Hope I can find a picture of the plow at least so I have some idea of what I am looking for..the ones that I have seen around here are sized for 50hp and up tractors..little too much for the little A farmall

I did build a drag harrow.7 feet wide....used some iron H beam from a mobile home chassis and used railroad spikes for the digs..spaced the spikes about 6 inches apart and this has worked out great for pasture renovation and leveling..very aggressive dig and leveling action..takes out blackberry bushes about as well ad lanything I have ever used..thought I would share this one..

Thanks Guys..!!

John, what are the difference in the A & Super A plows? We have a S/A plow and sold a Cub plow awhile back. The difference in those two are; different beam sizes & different bolt pattern on mounting plate. There could be more, but this is all I noticed. Thanks for any info!

What I know about A plows is just what I have read on different sites, but one of the things I read was that the A had quite a bit longer beam than the Super A plow.
