The Ford 530 was the first model of Ford's last line of balers before buying New Holland. It was designed by Long manufacturing in Tarboro, NC and was sold from the early 60's to the late 60's. It was replaced by the 532 which is basically the same baler with some upgrades (plunger stop) and different sheet metal. As a kid that was the only brand of balers we had. They use the same basic knotter that JD and NH use. (Rasspe Design) They bale fine. There is one flaw in the owners manual where the arrow is drawn pointing the wrong way and it set the feed forks in sync and you want them 180 degrees out. Most parts are available and at comparable cost to NH but with the Case merger I question that these balers will get any attention for parts so take that into consideration. Finding a parts baler is the best answer anyhow not matter what brand of baler you are buying. Generally these balers bring $200-$300 because of the lack of trained mechanics. Most NH or JD baler specialist will not touch one of them so figure you are going to learn to fix it yourself. They are not hard to work on and the manual is fairly good. Where are you located? I have opened my email if you want to respond directly

You need to talk to Jerry D from NC. He has a 530 and knows them inside and out. I have a 542 Ford baler that I've learned a lot about, but I understand it's enough different from a 530 to make me not authorized to make any statement.

Just generally, I'd want to actually see it make a bale before I paid out any cash....that's for any baler. Four years is a long time to just be sitting still if it still works. In other words, there's gotta be a reason they quit using it. Maybe the reason is legitimate and has nothing to do with the condition of the baler (sold the ground, retired from farming, etc), but still I'd take about 4 bales of hay or straw or something to the baler, hook it up to a tractor, break the bales and feed them into the baler and see if you get bales out the back.
