am tripling my hay acreage from 15 to 50 acres this year and need to streamline my operation. I found a decent Farmhand Accumulator with the grapple and high lift grapple extension at my New Holland Dealer. He wants $3250 for it. It was traded by a local farmer that I can contact to discuss it with him if I choose.

The bale grapple will work better with my storage than a bale wagon. What do you guys think of the old Farmhand accumulators and is $2500 to $3000 appropriate for this setup?

Iowa Jim. Give me a ring,319-257-6764 where you at. I am in Iowa also, come look see how I setup.I have run accumulator system 5 years now. Looked at them all old Farmhands,Hoelscher units, netherexe units,Steffens units and the others, mechanical or hyd controlled. Just depends on do you want hay flat or on edge, Carry 8 or 10 at time etc. I have done way over 30,000 in straw and little less in hay as straw is my main sales.
Sounds on high side for Farmhand units. Parts are getting tough. The grapples are fine thou. You can get them cheap. Had one last season for $250.00. Just let me know I can tell you alot tricks on these things. I run Hoelscher unit with two grapples. Your baler must be able to maintain pretty even bales in all units

I have a nieghbor with one. It has had a billion bales run through it. He doesn't believe in preventitive maintainance. It's still going strong. Must be a decent item. I have demo-ed a Steffen brand accumulator, and grapple. I ran about 100 bales through it, and then called the dealer to tell him to please get it off my farm, before the rest of my equipment started to catch whatever disease it had. J.U.N.K. JMHO, John
