Since I’m baling small square bales (2500-4000) as a one-man operation I am considering the purchase of a Farmhand 8-bale accumulator and getting rid of my bale wagon. I already have an 8-bale grab or fork, which works fine. My question is has anyone out there used one of these? Is the tractor the hydraulic power source and if so about what flow is required. Also if my tractor has closed center hydraulics do I need to tie the actuator open and return in the top transmission port the same, as I would do with a post driver. Thanks in advance for any help you can give………..Flurette Farm.

id stay away from the hydralic acummulators if were you. the hydalics on your tractor can be a pain unless your tractor is late model even then they will sometimes heat up. ther are afew companys making some the bales slide on the gound they work well i have one made by walker welding in manila ar it works very well.

I would rather see you go with a Hoelscher accumulator instead. 10bales instead eight alot less workings and they will stay with high capacity balers. I have one behind 570 New Holland baler. When you speak bale wagon are you talking the New Holland self loaders or are you talking flat racks. If you are talking about the first wagon I don't know if you will pickup more capacity or not. I have never used one,but looked into it and 125 bales was to samll load for me to go distance. I haul 240 bales to loads way I am setup now. You can use same grapple you have you will just need few more teeth and would go from lifting flat to lifting on edge. Rick Give me e-mail if want more info. I do over 8000 straw and even more bales of hay so had some experience.

Keep your bale wagon!!!!! had a 8 pack system for years, never could average staking over 80 bales per hour. I don't think they would work well behind a newer high capacity baler. I did the simple thing I bought a round baler.

all the ones that I have seen were run with a large hyd pump mounted to the PTO shaft of the tractor, a stub shaft is run thru the pump so you can still run your baler at the same time, tractor hyd will not produce enough flow to run it correctly, not sure what flow rate you need though, its also my understanding that the stub shaft tends to fail after a while so you will want to have a spare on hand just in case you need it
