My brother and I pulled and IHC hay baler out of the weeds today that belonged to my grandfather. We were wondering if anyone could tell me how I may could find out the year of the hay baler. We had a friend of ours tell us it was and early 40's. It has four wheels. I don't know if that would help any but our grandfather said that at one time he had a hay baler with just 2 wheels. I can talk steam engines and tractors but I don't know anything about hay balers. Any help would be appreciated.

IH did make a 4 wheel baler at one time. It was introduced in 1940 and the model number was 15. It was really nothing more than a baling press (stationary baler) with a pickup added to side. It also had an engine added for using as a mobile machine. The picture I have shows one of the older one cylinder hit and miss engines with two large flywheels. This baler was a 3 man operation, tractor driver, a guy forking into bale chamber from pickup and and a guy on behind to tie bales.
