I have this New Holland / Super Hayliner 68 in what I think is fair to good condition. My problem is that I have no need for it. And I don't know what it is worth or how to market it. I own a blueberry farm and mow what was once hayed and/or I am having it plowed for other vegetables, but not hay. Can someone out there give me an indication on what to ask for it - maybe that way I could at least barter for something that I need, like a three point hitch for my '48 FarmAll H or an additional tractor or something. Right now I don't even have a clue as to what it may or may not be worth. Thanks. Greg

I sold a good Super 68 to a friend for $450. I first asked him $500, then I saw one like it sell at a sale for $400, so I lowered the price to $400. He mailed me a check for $450. Pretty good guy, isn't he. . . The old baler still spits them out like when it was new.

Greg Guessing You are from Quebec, Maritimes or Maine, your baler will not fetch much over $ 300 unless it is in exceptional condition. If your unit has the Wisconson power unit on it and still running, it may get you closer to $500. The 68 supers were great balers but are getting very long in the tooth. So where are you from? Roy

Roy,

Sorry, wrong on all three accounts ... hehe. I am from McKean County, Pennsylvania. Which is near the New York border, about 80 miles south of Buffalo. I don't know if it has a Wisconsin power unit (?) and I do assume that it still runs. It was safely tucked away in the steel barn when I "bought the farm" (pardon the un).

Greg Sorry for getting off topic, but, What variety of blueberries do you grow ? I didn't think low sweet berries went that far south west, when I saw berry fields mentioned I thought you would be closer to home. Some of the NH balers were powered by 2&4 cyl wisconson engines rather than PTO. Allowed you to bale with smaller tractors, those without live PTO, why we have even used ours behind a team of horses. Good luck with your sale. Roy

Roy,

Believe it or not, I don't rightly know. I've been meaning to have the county extension agent come over (thier office is right kity-corner across the highway. One of the eighty-four year old neighbors, who has been there since they were planted over fourty years ago ... claims they were "imported from Alaska" (?).

I don't know if my berries are considered "low" sweet berries, and I don't think that I'm very far "south west" - Pennsylvania is North East US ... but they grow to about 7 to 8 feet tall, if I let them... And there are at least two vaieties - judging from the looks of the bushes.

We just went into blueberry farming a year ago ... but, we sold over 20,000 # and gave up probably almost 10,000 # to waste or spoilage. We seem to have boughten about 2,000 +/- . We also have a produce stand where we sell as a "truck farm" - and a nursery resellers license.

Sorry I went so off topic, but I've been excited and enthusiastic about learning the business ... ask me ... hehe...

If we go off topic much more - maybe we should leave the group - they may not be interested in my rambling ...

Regards,
Greg

Hi Greg - I think I'm almost your next door neighbor. I'm over here in Eldred - I think I can figure out where you are - Smethport? I absolutely love baling hay. I think hay balers are right up there as one of the best developments in farming history. If you decide on a price, let me know, as I could use an extra baler. I've included my e-mail here, so drop me a line.

Hi Jim,

Yes, we are more or less neighbors ... Eldred's just a stone throws away ...

Keep in touch!

Greg

Karl,

I must apologize, I haven't taken the time to take the pics that I promised ... I will though.

Last night, it was replacing front tractor tire tubes on my FarmAll H ... and tonight (5-16-01), it was soil samples for the Univ. (Penn State) and smashing concrete in the barn ... it heaved up from water freezing over the years...

I'll get them taken and off to you soon.

Regards

Greg
