When I go to auctions, I look around for old rotted out silage wagons. Got a couple of good gears, one JD and one NH, for $100 each (the JD did need two tires) this way. Just had to get those old silage boxes off. The JD box still had a good steel-framed bed under it. I could have made a nice flat rack out of it, had I needed one, but the gear was marked for a gravity box already.

Wagon prices huh. Sometimes if the box is bad, the thing won't even bring a bid, the iron man gets them. There was a place bulldozed out very recently here, there were 3 wagons back in the weeds, two with 15 inch rubber and hoist, no value, they got buried, tried to get them out, but too much rain. With the shift to trucks, and big grain carts a pull behind wagon generally brings 25bucks, if that.

$25 - $500. A bare frame is probably more expensive that a complete wagon. Farm sales are about the only source for reasonably priced wagons, and even then they can be high. Have attended consignment sales every spring where farmers and acreagers sell stuff. Last year there were two hay racks someone had recently built on decent frames sith serviceable tires and they brought less than $200! I know the guy must have had that much in the wood alone! Keep looking. Dick Davis

I agree, bare frames are more expensive than a frame with a rotted out deck. If you don't mind the extra work of taking off the old bed you probably get a better value buying frame and junk bed. I paid $200 for a frame, two weeks later I bought a frame and junk bed for $80. Frames were in about equal condition and tonnage.

They are hard to find around here but I got one last year for 150, just the frame, then made a hay rack for it.
