4 bottom 16's

I think I bought too much plow for my place. It's a 4 bottom with 16's, 3 point pull type, (no draw bar hook-up). This Orange booger must weight over 800lbs but is in excellent shape and the price was right $250. Still has the Allis stickers on it. I could probably take off the last two plows to save the guts on my Case 930, but I'm also concerned about pulling this plow with a three point...which is heavy duty but custom built by the previous owner. I have heavy clay and this 6 acres hasn't been plowed in 30 to 35 years...just disking. Any thoughts on this??

If it was me, I would try it before I started taking off bottoms. It's only 6 acres, put in 2nd gear and take off. Plow somewhere else first to get moldboards scoured and shiney and then go for it. Chris

Not familiar with Case tractor and i have no idea where you are at, but it takes all of our 105 HP Oliver 1855 to pull 4-16's in our soil. We probably could do with a smaller tractor, but it would just be too painfully slow to be worth trying. We pull 3-16's with about 75-85 HP.

Everyone's idea of heavy clay is different. We pulled 4-14's semi-mounted in clay with out 930 for years, but it was really too much for it. Sometimes we just had to lift the plow up a little. If you've gotwell established roots and indeed HEAVY clay, I don't think your 930's gonna do it. At any rate, you better have good tires full of ballast and at least 500# hanging on the front end.

I live in eastern KS just a few miles from missouri. I would comnsider this real heavy clay. I have factory wheel weights on the back tires, but I was also thinking about dropping one of the plows off and using 3. Thanks for the point about the front weight.

That 930 Case shouldn't have any problems with a 4-16s plow.

Hitches were built to pull. That's what they are on there for.

The reason I was asking about the three point and draw bar is because my brother has a Ford 2 bottom plow that has the three point to lift the plow but it's actually pulled by a tongue on the draw bar. I didn't know if the 4 bottom would be too much on a 3 point.
