I am looking at a couple of NH 316"s (both being sold by dealers as former trade-ins). I have no experience with the NH and currently run a JD 14T. The 14T is a great baler but way too slow for my needs. One of the 316"s I"m looking at has quite a few new parts (the whole needle assembly, knotter discs) but otherwise looks OK (looks like it had a major mishap).
What"s the opinion on the 316? The dealer says it runs at 75 strokes/min. How does that compare to the 14T? How"s the pickup rake on the 316? The dealer wants right around $4000. Is that a fair price? (there is a 70 kicker on it which I don"t need; I use an accumulator).
Comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have ran a NH 316 for 16 some odd years now and really love it. I use our Ford 4610 and Kubota M9000 as baler tractors pulling bale baskets. Only had one problem which to this day not sure what happened, but the right side knotter crashed. I repaired it myself and was back baling in two hours. I did have "bananna" bale issues for the longest time. Finally I got tired of the sitiation and decided to fix the problem. After some trial and error, repositioning the left side chamber bale wedge solved the odd shapped bale problem in almost 95% of the hay we now bale. Also, proper daily and preventative maint. keeps the little issues at bay.

I have a 426 nh good baler,if it had a major mishap you want to look at the plunger and the rod make sure it is not bent or cracked and not damage to the plunger. What kind of accumulator are you using?
Jon

I use a BaleSport accumulator (the kind that groups them 8 altogether). It runs behind the baler and drags the bales on the ground until the 8th bale trips the gate. Then I have to drive around the field with the grab and pick up the stacks.
