I was wandering through my local combine scrap yard looking for a 13-26 rim, when I found this Deere 105 edible bean combine with head sitting there. It looks in good shape, and it has cast iron centers for the drive wheels! I can get some pictures later when the ground firms up. How rare is this thing? My neighbor had a 105 C&B special he ran until it could run no more, and I thought his had stamped steel wheels.

I ran a 105 EB for 20 years, and I never could tell any difference between it and a straight 105. I don't know the history of it before I got ahold of it so I don't know if parts have been changed or not. It did have factory air cond. so I get the idea it is from the south, or the wheat country. I think the EB could have come from the factory with a spiked toothed cylinder and feed rolls ahead of the cylinder, but I don't know for sure.

The old girl has been sitting in the machine shed for ten years now, ready to go back to work but I don't think she ever will, at least for any serious work. I fired her up last fall and she ran like a top for me. As you can tell, I'm kind of affectionate about 'her'.Jim

I don't have much interest in Deere stuff, too expensive to fix, and besides, we farm with Oliver, MM, CASE, and IH anyways.

Hi there, All the 105's had the center cast iron wheel. There were probably not too many 105 EB's made, but they are not really any different than the corn special. No real big deal here, the 105's seem to be less collectible as they are bigger and harder to haul and store, etc.

The smaller combines such as 40's and 45's seem to have more of the cute factor and a 45 EB may be a little more collectible.

So I would say just use good judgement, and if it's wore out and been sitting outside a long time consider it parts or scrap; otherwise you'll be in for more expense and headache than you need to deal with. Rather find a good clean machine from a private party that has been shedded and cared for.

I have a plain 105 and it has cast wheels. Reading in the book, You could remove the rim and install crawler track set and that sprocket would mount directly to that cast wheel in place of the rim
