I have a chance to buy one of these. How big is the head? Are they reliable? Is there anything I should look at when I go to inspect it? I only plan on doing a couple acres of oats or wheat as a demo. A friend has the machine, it has not seen much use in the last 20 some years, but has ran 2006 oat harvest. I collect CASE, MM, and IH and like odd things. He would keep it but the shed it is in is falling down so it has to go, and he was talking about cutting it up. It has a round grain tank and a continental? engine on top of the cylinder. The head has an auger in it. Where can I find the serial tag? What is it worth if it still runs good? Are replacement parts hard to come by?

Would you consider selling any parts off of it? I need the little round link that bolts through the left hand spindle and connects it to the tie rod. This one has been welded so many time it is too brittle.

I think so, fox choppers used to be popular around here. Any interest?

[quote="1031D"](quoted from post at 20:11:33 03/07/08) Well, I went and looked at it today. It is a 1955 with the smaller engine and a 12 foot head. It is now outside. Sitting by it is an H3? pull type with a windrow pickup on it. third party image third party image[/quote

hello, was that a fox hay head in the pick next to the combine?

The guy I'm getting it from said he parked it because he picked the head up and it would not go back down. Does it have a Chrysler or Continental engine? Does anybody have a parts machine?

Well, I am going to bring it home anyway I look at it. It needs the steering fixed then it is going to get a nice back road trailer ride into it's new shed. Sometime in it's life someone broke the left rear steering arm and I have to take it off of the tie rod and spindle and reweld it back together. Other than a raccoon stuck in the cylinder, I think it should be good to go for spring. One other problem that it has is the head is stuck up, is there some sort of a safety device built in to it? I see it has a hydraulic control box on it similar to the one on my ZAU. I do have 2 inside pictures of the seperator if anybody wants to see them.

I'm glad to hear that you are getting the 168.It looks pretty decent and theres not alot of them left.

Theres no safety device to lock the header up.I wedge in a 2 by 6 to make sure the header stays up.On most non running combines that I buy,the headers are down so I have to jack them up first to do this.

DO NOT,,, I REPEAT,, DO NOT LET ANYONE NEAR IT WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN A TRALER, OR YOU THAT ARE GOING TO BRING IT HOME AND REDO IT,
That one was made right after mine, and its definetly not a throw away combine like others ive seen,
Any thing MM is worth saving as they had character to them, in the way theu were designed and built,
so,,, Go Get it and bring it home and dive into it ok,
kirk,

Dont let it get cut up.A running 168 MM is worth $500 or more.It could have a 12',13',or 14' header.

The serial number tag should be on the right rear. Most parts will be non existent. Most belts, chains, bearings can be found.A couple of acres of oats per year wont wear it out much.

Get us a picture.Thanks.
