My luck in the mud ran out this afternoon.I slid down the hill side in to the previous rut and there was no bottom. Its almost impossible to steer them with no RWA.This is the worst mud at wheat harvest since 1981.

I need to get this field done so we can burn it and get it dried out.Time is growing short to get double crop beans in the ground.

There was rain all around here at noon today but it mostly missed me.

WOW!! I didn't know there was any place in Missouri that was that wet! We finally got a rain today (about an 1")and it's already soaked up and gone. I was baling hay last week and there were cracks in the ground 1 1/4" wide. Our grass has been dying. It's been so hot and dry , we've been cutting hay in the evening and baling the next day and the hay has been dry as a bone. Anyway, sorry about your combine.I hope it comes out alright.

Scott

Scott, SWMO,SEKS,and NEOK have been deluged with rain this year. Some places have had over 15" in June alone and over 30" for the year.I'm at the north edge of it.

Last year at this time the wheat was cut and the double crop beans were in the ground.

Make that pretty much ALL of the northern half of Oklahoma. I'm not in the field, yet, have NOT been to the field, and may not, period. This is just like it was, in the summer of 1995. GRRRR!!!!

IN THE DARK ,AND being rushed by the rising water 33 years ago ,fall of 74 , Golly time flies , WE just bent the $$%&*$$ out of the rear axle . NO BIGGY . did it with a 800 case . Best I can remember ,the back wheels were mired in and we pulled it at an angle backwards , first , Then hitched to axle , Cold rising water kept us from hooking like we should have ,, Anyway,WE GOT HER OUT , 12 hours later there was 4 ft of water were the machine was stuck .. LIVE and Learn , Jim

So were you ever able to repair or replace the bent back axle?

Anyone who has ever owned one of the beasts has stuck one. The main problem is getting them out without bending them or pulling them apart. Good luck.

Blaine, you better get a backhoe in there as well. What SD Pete says is true, and you've already told me this is the same one which broke the front axle housing last year. I'm really afraid the combine is already weakened from that prior damage.

Been there done that. To pull out without causing frame damage I would hook the chain to the back axle at a right angle to the machine and twist it out.

????? ?????No frame damage by pulling at right angles and 'twisting' it out? Run two chains underneath to both drive axles and pull it straight out to the rear. Put duals on. Get a Gleaner which actually has a decent frame- I've never been stuck so much that I couldn't pull it out to the rear, using the steering axle.

I totally agree with running two chains or cables UNDER the rear axle and to the front, wrapping around, close to the separator. Pull straight out. Tension should raise the back up out of the mud in the process. The strain is even and won't risk twisting or bending the combine's frame.

I've seen neighbors run two cables back to the steering axle (before they went to the field), terminating in a heavy ring, so it's already in place, during a wet season.

Thats what we did to get my M2 out. The thing was buried past the first step on the ladder. And used the neighbors Big Versitile to pull it out slow and easy. Took 3 seconds to stick it and a couple hours to get it out. :-)

This morning a neighbor and I tried twisting out the 1420 IH using my 6030 JD but we only got it moved 3 ft.If my 1456 had been running I believe it would have pulled it out. There is water standing in the ruts.My neighbor will bring over his 4760 JD Monday morning if it doesnt rain.

In the 48 years that I've been around SP combines I expect that Dad and I have been stuck well over 200 times on our farm and while custom cutting for the neighbors. We have pulled them out,dug them out, winched them out,let them sit until it froze up,etc. We have had to use 2 tractors more than once.

A couple of the worst wheat harvests ever were 1967 and 1981.We cut wheat all summer those years. It took me 7 weeks to cut 300 acres in 1981.It started out making 60 bpa and by the time we were done it was making 20 bpa.I had the 715 IH stuck so many times I lost track.

The worst fall harvest ever was 1974.We ran Arps half tracks on our 403 IH and mudded out beans and milo all fall up in to the winter when it finally froze up.Sometimes we were the only combine running in the entire county.Lots came to watch.

We got stuck 8 times with the Arps half tracks on and my 856 IH pulled it out every time. This was no ordinary 856 as it had been built new as a pulling tractor. In field trim it could be turned up to 190 horses. It had a TD-15 dozer turbo, lots of pump work, special clutch, etc. It had 24.5x32 inside tires with 18.4x38 duals and would absolutely walk on water as we kept it light..It never failed to pull our combine or tractors out but also pulled out numerous neighbors. It once twisted out a stuck F Gleaner that was high centered with 100 bushels of milo on.My local wrecker man said that we were the only ones he didnt winch out at least once in 1974.

We cant figure out why its so wet here.2005 and 2006 were real dry and we have never had over 5" of rain in any month this year. They have had far more rain just to the south and west of here.
