Heres what part of my wheat field looks like.An April freeze, disease, and too much rain ruined this spot.Lots of wheat fields in SWMO,SEKS and Central KS,NEOK,etc look like this.

6 bpa wheat is the limit! in reply to 1206SWMO, 06-21-2007 20:32:01
If the yields are lower that at least 6 bpa, better NOT even combine and get insurance. Nowadays, I'm seeing more agents adjust claims for farmers without even having to cut, due to the price of fuel. It takes at least 5 bpa just to break even on the cost of fuel to run the combine.

Like it or not, combines have to eat, too! They're going to also run wide open and at maximum fuel consumption, whether the yields are 3 or 30 bpa.

Depending on the price of fuel and market value of wheat at the time. Like brendon said, some around here are planting right into the wheat. Different methods for strange years.

The reason he's planting into still standing wheat and not the stubble, is because what grain there is, is NOT even worth collecting. That's really sad, too.

No mud here blain. But 50 test and 6.5 bu/acre. It takes four hours to get a load. Definately no seed wheat. Got into some ground that had beans in it last year and got a load in two hours. We are cutting the best first. Hoooboy.

Ouch Russ!! 6.5 BPA wheat has got to hurt. What size Gleaner is that?

I had my wheat contracted for $3.75 per bushel. After a 60 cent dock for 51 lb test wt I only got $3.15 per bushel.I cant fill my contract so will have to buy it out for $1.25 per bu.This is going to be a real money making deal!!

HRW wheat is $6.00 here and SRW is $5.00.In the 12 mile drive to the elevator not a single field was cut. They all had 1-2" of rain Weds eve and its a muddy mess.

The wheat harvest has just started here north of Wichita, KS as well. Nasty looking stuff. I have heard of some fields being appraised at less than 5 bushel per acre, and like you mentioned, test weights are in the 50 range. 17-20 degrees for three nights at Easter time, 6-7 inches of wet spring snow on two occasions to pack it flat, un-ending rain in May, army worms by the millions, and 90+ degrees with 40 mph wind a few weeks ago that really shriveled the kernels. Not a good year to be growing wheat around here. At least our friends in western Kansas have a good crop. They deserve it after the years of drought they have had to endure.

I saw something here the other day that I had never seen before. Planter tracks right through standing wheat. The farmer obviously figured that the wheat wasn't even worth messing with and simply planted through it. There were a lot of fields that were chopped or baled, too.

The guy in western Kansas that finds old combines for me got a bad hail storm about 4 weeks ago and lost everything. It looked like 60 bpa wheat when we were out there the middle of May.I feel bad for him.

23.1x26 rice tires up front and 9.5x24's on the rear.

I sure wish the hydro wasnt so weak on my 715 IH.It has 28Lx26's up front with RWA on the back. Its a much better mud machine.

That looks like some of the rice fields from when I was a kid. Much of the time, we had conditions like that, but we were used to it. That old black gumbo and rice straw could make a mess when it got sticky. I broke a final drive axle once on a MH 92 trying to get out of the field. What a mess.....lol.

Well, something must be right--if you're using her this year. I sure hate to see you quit farming, though.
