Was watching RFDTV last nite. Must have been an Allis tractor meet, some nice rigs in the parade. Enjoyed the Allis cornpicker, can you see that thing in 200 bpa corn.Ha. Anyway there was a AC combine in the parade that sure looked like a JD 12A . Maybe someone painted it, maybe camera color was goofy, but I thought most AC combines were the boxy side discharge type.
Enlighten me??

The 40 and 60 were built at the same time, but the 40 was discontinued by WW2. Actually, the "turtle back" Allis 40 preceded the John Deere models 10, 11, and 12, which were right hand cut machines but were flipped and got an "a" prefix.

The 40 sold for a little over 300 bucks and was a 6 acre a day match for an Allis B.

The episode of Classic Tractors on RFD last night was footage from the 2006 Gathering of the Orange in Boonville, MO. That was indeed an A-C B and 40 All Crop combo owned by Mr. Lott out of Kansas. Here is a picture of that unit. I'm pretty sure that's the same unit in 1206's post. I have purchased a 40 from a friend of mine, just haven't picked it up yet.

Heres a dandy little 40 Allis combine hooked to a slick B Allis.I took this picture at Pawnee,OK in May 2005.

How would you like to start in on 320 aces of wheat with this?It would take awhile combining 40" at a time.

In the 50's when my Dad farmed in the Texas Panhandle he had neighbors who combined 640 acre fields with an Allcrop 60. A Dad and 2 sons. They ran 24 hours a day 6 days a week at a pretty good pace in light wheat.

Do you know we are featuring Allis Chalmers at LeSueur Co. Pioneer Power show in '07? We could probably reserve some standing wheat for you combine guys to play in.

They did make a rear discharge machine- I think it was a model 40. I think it in Swinhart's book where I saw a factory picture- long row of machines on the line. Late 30s, early 40s? Before the Model 60 came out.
