1206SWMO... only someone like you could understand this... a 90 Special is my dream machine. 8-)

I had a line on a very nice one with a 10ft header a couple years ago... but I have no place to keep it.

Red, Probably one of the best 90 Special Masseys in existence is about 20 miles from me.It was bought new by his Dad and has always been shedded.I think he still uses it.The paint and decals are still great yet.It will make your mouth water.

What bothers me is he keeps it in a shed where nobody lives which is about 3 miles from where he lives.Several sheds and barns in that area have been burned by arsonists. The owner is retirement age so it may be selling someday soon.Thats one sale I wont miss!

His main tractor is a 1206 IH that was bought brand new.Only used on a smaller farm and has low hours.

Did you ever unload on-the-go with one of those? The unloading auger is about 30 degrees from vertical and doesn"t leave much variance for the side-to-side movement of the truck. High-mounted grain tanks with nearly horizontal unloading augers are much easier on the truck driver. Of course I"m speaking of some years ago before the big grain carts of today that are pulled by tractors and can easily maintain the pace and direction that the combine is moving. I"ve unloaded on-the-go with trucks (John Deere combines and IHC combines) where the unloading auger was closer to horizontal than what the older Masseys had.

Unloading on the go was something that was never done here until the big grain carts came in to this area in the early 1980's.I can see where it would have been hard to unload on the go in to a truck with the old Masseys. Most of their unloading augers seem to have dings in them.

Half the time it was so wet here that it was impossible to take a truck off the end of the field. In the fall of 1974 we couldnt even put trucks on the ends of the fields. We tried it once and sunk a 1962 Ford F-600 to the bed on a lane that was usually hard as a rock.To top it off I had my high horse 856 IH on the front pulling it when it went down. The Ford was loaded with milo and had to be shoveled off to an auger wagon.Sometimes were were hauling milo and beans nealy a mile to the main roads with a 110 bu TSC auger wagon.

Certainly doesn"t sound like a fun harvest if the fields are wet. I grew up in northern ND and wet fields at harvest were rare there in the 1940s and 1950s. Although I believe ND has been having wetter harvest seasons in recent times.
