Here is a picture of a Gleaner 6 PT combine that will sell on an estate sale this week.I assume its called that because it has a 6 ft head.

The only 6 ft PT Gleaners I can find in my books are the "T" made from 1937-41 and the "S" made from 1942-53.

Back in the early 50's Dad had a Gleaner 6 or S.I have an old picture of it somewhere.

Gleaner made at least (5) different number pull types from 1929-49 with 12 ft heads.

I go back to work tomorrow so wont be hogging this forum quite so much.

Please keep posting the pics and info, I enjoy it but have little to add so I dont reply much. The history of that series of Gleaner pull types as I know it from Norm Swinford"s book is that they started out on 1936 as the models S (walkers) and T (raddle) Same machines with differant straw handling. The 1936 built test machines performed very poorly on the field and a virtualy all new machine but still called a model S was built starting in 1942 and the T and it"s raddle type straw section was dropped. The Gleaner Six was a variation of the model T raddle machine and at least some bore Txxx serial numbers. The S was built until 1953 when the head was widened to 80" and renamed the P-80. I have seen a P-80 with an Allis Chalmers name plete for sale on this site several years ago so at leas some were assembled and sold after A-C bought Gleaner. Hate to see that old Gleaner rotting down, my S was better cared for and we put it back to work (play) last summer. You have seen the pic but I like posting it, our 1951 S.

I don't quite follow all the history here but my Dad's had a 12 foot header and a raddle chain instead of straw walkers. They started using the first one in the early 40's, the second in the late 40's. He doesn't remember the model number. The first one had a Model T motor and the second had a 6 cylinder Hercules. It came out with all chains but they bought a conversion kit that replaced most of the chains with belts. It was a much quieter machine then. I need to get that book.
